Largan to Invest NT$20.5 Billion for Capacity Expansion in Taiwan

Lens supplier Largan Precision Co. has revealed plans to increase its investment in new production facilities from NT$10 billion (US$322.9 million; US$1=NT$30.409) over the next five years to NT$20.5 billion (US$647.1) in lump sum, reported Economic Daily News on October 3. The new plants, which will be built on a site Largan purchased for NT$3.1 billion (US$101.9 million) in Taiwan's Taichung Precision Machinery Science and Technology Innovation Park, will break ground in early 2015 and begin operation in mid-2017, churning out HD camera lens components with an annual shipment value of NT$200 billion (US$6.6 billion). Largan is a major lens supplier of Apple's iPhones, taking up over 20% of the worldwide market, said the report.
